NEWS RELEASE Law Talk Colorado launches podcast series featuring state and local legal experts

APRIL 19, 2020. GRAND JUNCTION, COLO. Law Talk Global Network, a nonprofit media network purposed with engaging public awareness of the law, announces the launch of Law Talk Colorado at LawTalkColorado.com.

Law Talk Colorado is a podcast series of information and in-depth discussions featuring state and local legal experts — attorneys, judges, law enforcement, legislators, policy makers, et al) on important legal issues that matter in the lives of Coloradans.

“We’re excited to be part of today’s news media evolution as a nonprofit media network by bringing direct-to-source state and local legal information to the public,” said Law Talk Colorado and Law Talk Global Network founder Krystyn Hartman, a career media professional.

The first five Law Talk Colorado podcast episodes feature Denver metro and Western Colorado attorneys, a sheriff, police chief, and tech company CEO.

“I like podcasting because of its conversational, magazine style listening format,” Hartman explained, adding that the episodes can remain live and searchable on the internet as long as their information is current and relevant. “Podcasting is a fast growing medium and accessible from any device with an internet connection.” Nearly 49% of podcast listening is in the home and 22% in the car.

As a nonprofit media organization supported through donations and sponsorships, Law Talk Colorado podcasts are free to the public, shareable and accessible from major podcast platforms including Spotify, Google Podcasts, Stitcher, iHeart Radio, and more. Law Talk Colorado podcasts and episode details are also accessible directly from the organization’s website at LawTalkColorado.com

“Our goal is to release a new podcast daily by the end of this year, 2020,” Hartman said. “The need for public education of our state and local laws is critical. For example? Nearly 98% of civil cases filed in Colorado’s county courts do not have legal representation,” according to a December 2019 Colorado Bar Association story.

“There are many state and local laws that Coloradans are expected to abide by and navigate in our ‘life, liberty and pursuit of happiness,’ but, come on, we can’t all be lawyers or live next door to a police officer,” Hartman said. “Enter Law Talk Colorado and Law Talk Global Network of news journalists interviewing state and local legal experts willing to take the time to share knowledge and insights of our laws in an easy access format that is free to everyone.”

  • Episode 1. Power of Attorney basics: Medical & Financial with attorney Barbara Butler of Grand Junction.
  • Episode 2. Divorce filings, child custody, and domestic violence cases in the Age of COVID19 with attorney Hannah Westmont of Lakewood.
  • Episode 3. Gender equity, economy, and public policy with gender economist, founder & CEO of Denver-based Pipeline Equity Katica Roy
  • Episodes 4 & 5. COVID19 & public safety with Mesa County Sheriff Matt Lewis and Grand Junction Police Chief Doug Shoemaker

Law Talk Colorado news anchors Michael Moran and Angeline Roles lead the programs. “They’re awesome to work with,” Hartman said. “Their experience and candor combined with their willingness to break new ground as a team; to learn together, laugh at ourselves through the many learning curves, have made what could’ve been a stressful process downright fun.”

She added that the legal experts they’ve interviewed have been “equally forgiving and in good humor as we went from in-house interviews to remote Zoom interviews over a matter of days, all of us learning; everyone patient and supportive. Let’s just say, we have a lot of people to thank.”

The organization has applied for 501c3 nonprofit status with the US Dept of Treasury. Hartman credits many individuals for their valuable input and encouragement; as well as the Grand Junction Business Incubator and Colorado Womens Bar Association for their organizational leadership and support throughout the development and launch of Law Talk Colorado.
